newbie lang po ako dito. gusto ko lang sana magseek ng advice from you guys. kasi nagsign ako ng work contract sa hongkong for 2 years as a domestic helper(which i could barely remember pero andun nga un pirma ko sa contract, which, as far as I can remember, minadali akong papirmahin without giving me the time to read the entire content of the docs, and i admit is fault on my part). but days before that time, nabasa ko sa mga POEA sites na 1month equivalent lang dapat ang placement fee, including sa hongkong. placement fee refers to the fee that the worker pays to the agency for finding an employer for them. kumbaga, fee for placing a job. clearly, poea site refers to processing fees being the medical, training, pdos, etc being incurred in the processed and is shouldered by the worker. therefore, processing fees ay un mga pinapalakad mismo sa mga applicants ng agencies, while placement fee is entirely separate from the said fees. i have further read sa mga articles na ang employers, say, sa hongkong ay nagbabayad ng counterpart ng binabayaran ng applicants dito sa pinas, which is ung placement fee. if i'm not mistaken, placement fee sa part ng employer ranges from HK$3000-5000. kasama na daw dito un 2-way ticket ng applicant, visa, insurance, etc. ang pinagtataka ko lang bakit ganun kalaki ang pinapabayaran ng mga agencies dito sa pilipinas sa mga applicant while poea clearly states in their ads that the placement fee should not be more than 1 month's salary equivalent. so kung sinasabi nilang 20k ang sahod, di ba dapat close din dun un placement fee? and here's the thing, i asked a staff from this agency if i would get a discount in case i pay the PF in cash, he said no and I better communicate with their so-called lending agency para daw mag-avail ng loan at a 2.5% interest rate. imagine? anlaki na ng placement fee, gusto pa nilang tubuan ang mga kawawang OFWs. so when i confirmed that the placement fee amount is equivalent to 1month salary by reading this POEA article and the 2 agencies having their licenses cancelled because of charging too much:http://poea.gov.ph/news/2012/PR_Jan2012
..i made the decision to withdraw from the job offer i was given by texting one of the staff about it. This made me more confident about my moves and i would soon consult POEA about my situation. nag alibi lang ako na nalalakihan ang parents ko sa placement fee amount, but honestly, it's not the reason. what's more disturbing about this agency is that they don't issue out official receipts sa mga payments (medical, training fee, which i think should not be paid to them anyway but directly kung san ka magpapamedical o training) made within their firm. ang alibi nila: guarantee/assurance daw nila ay makakaalis un tao at darating ang visa at kesyo daw hindi naman sa kanila napupunta ang perang sinisingil nila kundi sa agency sa ibang bansa. in short, mukhang walang mahahabol in case may mangyari at hindi din tama ang tax na binabayaran nila.
Now, my real concern is that, they are threatening me of a breach of contract daw. sabi nila may penalty daw un. ask ko ano at magkano ang penalty, di masagot. report na lang daw ako as soon as possible sa agency para makipag-usap. can somebody tell me if what i did was right or wrong? i'm a bit confused right now but i hope to find an answer soon as i consult the right entity. sana di ako nagkamali.
